Krystal Harrison Biography.
My journey started 14 years ago, at 17 years old I gave birth to my eldest son Adam Samuel, I decided packing Uncle Ben’s stir fry in a factory wasn’t the road for me, so I took myself to the careers centre in Bradford where I hoped to get on to a chef course as I loved burning my meals as I couldn’t cook for shit. Unfortunately all the courses were full apart from hairdressing, so I thought sod it, I have to do something, so I started my first job at Mario’s in Bradford where I made my way from junior to stylist. I absolutely loved working here, but after 7 years I decided it was time to move on.
So me being me, I thought it would be a genius idea for me to apply for the role of a salon manager, guess what? I got it! Obviously I thought I was the dogs bollocks strutting around the salon; it didn’t last long , apparently if you are sick you need counselling, the owner was a social worker, so off I went again.
Next I decided to take some time out after going through a real abusive relationship. Then I started selling children shoes on the markets. I know you’re probably thinking, why? Obviously the money was good. Although I always continued doing my passion on the side, from my kitchen. I had very loyal clients which are now my close friends that stayed with me from working at Mario’s.
Then, in 2009, I was lucky enough to get my own salon in Scholes. It was only a small shop with 4 chairs where I started alone. I remember standing looking in the mirror at myself that day, I made an oath to myself to become a stylist to the stars. I didn’t want much did I, haha; but a girl can dream. I began working all hours God sent, I came across challenges I thought I couldn’t possibly ever get through, but I did. I always got through anything life threw at me, it made me stronger and more determined. Staff came and went, nobody said it was going to be easy, they got that right. I went on to have two more beautiful babies, Joey and Bobby-Jack.
By 2014 I had outgrown my little shop, hungry for more I decided to get myself a bigger salon with more staff, not knowing how the hell I was going to manage. I guess if you work hard and dream big anything is possible. I did it, I got my dream salon, 2 shops next door to each other, I knocked them through, renovated, decorated and designed them. I had done it.
So here I am, with my amazing team, Farah, Leah Turner, Chelsea Conway, Ella May, Eleanor Frost (my best friend) and Chantelle Johnson. We are a force to be reckoned with, not only are we best friends, we are the ultimate work family. So what now…
Now the journey really begins. In July 2017, we are going to launch Krystal’s hair academy, teaching our skills on to eager learners who share the same passion and dreams as we do. I am very lucky and grateful for what I have and for the person I have become on this journey. I couldn’t have done it without my friends and family and of course my beautiful clients.
Hopefully, there is so much more to come…
